Trauma survivors dealing with their experience often feel overwhelmingly exposed, emotionally and physically, while their assailant’s identity is often unexposed. As a survivor of sexual assault, I have chosen to create a series of photographs that discuss instances of sexual assault and domestic violence in which the perpetrator was not identified. The scenes created in this work represent this discomforting idea by allowing the light to play a character in each photograph, so that the unidentified figure is physically exposing the other subject. This work is intended to show the sensitivity, vulnerability, and objectification encountered by a survivor of sexual assault in their experience and healing process.
