As an individual experiencing residual effects from various instances of trauma, I find it extremely important to focus on mental and physical health as a means of recovery. Because trauma lives within a person’s psyche as well as his or her body, this series is meant to portray the healing potential of continually taking personal inventories. What can be found in beginning to do so is that there is a much greater atmosphere within than anticipated and much of what is already there deserves patience, love and adoration. This collection of photographs has been altered to depict the internal “universe,” the way it can materialize, even in our most vulnerable places, and that it can be used as part of the healing process. Selective color is utilized to further this idea by drawing attention to what is sensational, rather than imperfect, in a way that trauma survivors strive for so they may reach peace and acceptance.
